A historic 2-0 away test series win against Pakistan has helped Sri Lanka to leap frog their sub continental rivals and occupy the sixth spot in the ICC test rankings.
The Lankans now have 94 rating points, having gained 4 points for the two test wins in the UAE. This was the first time Pakistan lost a test series in Dubai. It was also their first home test series loss for almost 10 years.
Dinesh Chandimal’s men now trail Australia (97) by just three points. There’s a tie between the 4th & the 5th side, with both Australia & New Zealand having 97 points each. But the Kiwis are in 4th thanks to the smallest of fractional advantage.
South Africa’s demolition of Bangladesh hands them a single point as the Proteas occupy the 2nd spot with 111 points. At the top and almost out of everyone’s reach is India (125 points) with a whopping 14-point lead. England are 3rd with 105 points.
Pakistan has dropped to 7th in the rankings, having lost 5 rating points. They now have 88 points. Below the Pakistanis is the West Indies with 75. Fresh from their embarrassing loss in both tests against South Africa, Bangladesh are 9th with 72 points.
