Originally only designated to take part in the T-20s, Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi finds himself in the ODI squad against India after Todd Astle was ruled out through an injury. Astle was extremely unlucky as he suffered a tear on his right side when he was playing against Board President’s XI in a warm-up
Astle was really in great form in the recently concluded ODI series between India A & New Zealand A. He picked up 6 wickets which propelled the selectors to call him up for the ODI series. Sodhi was the man whom he replaced in the limited overs’ squad of the Kiwis set toface India later this month.
Coach Mike Hesson was understably disappointed; saying, “Todd was really impressive in the recent New Zealand A tour over here and had done everything he possibly could to get himself ready for this series. He deserved this opportunity and everyone in the team is certainly feeling for Todd. He’ll return to New Zealand and get himself ready for a big summer.”
Hesson’s men will play another warm-up game against the same team on Thursday with the first ODI set to be played this Sunday (October 22) at Wankhede Stadium.
