In what seemed to be inevitable, another batting collapse has led to the destruction of Bangladesh as they lose the second against South Africa by an innings & 254 runs. It was a reality check for the Tigers after their wins against England, Australia & Sri Lanka in the longest format of the game. The main destroyer was once again young Protea pacer Kagiso Rabada who took five wickets in the second innings, just like he did in the first. Bangladesh looked to manage the impossible of overcoming a deficit of 436 runs in the second innings.
Just like the first, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals & not one single player showed signs of carrying the bat throughout the innings. Starting at 92/4 after lunch, keeper Liton Kumar Das & experienced veteran Mahmudullah showed some signs of fightback with a partnership of 43. Youngster Phehlukwayo bowled a ripper which shattered Liton’s defences, leaving the keeper in disbelief with his stumps flying all over. Rabada started the post lunch session on 99 test wickets and he took out Mahmudullah to complete his century of test wickets. The two fiery men then took care of the tail end of the Bangladeshi line up as none of the could offer any resistance against the pace, swing & bounce by the Protea fast men. Phehlukwayo bowled Mustafizur with a brilliant yorker to finish the proceedings.
For his 10-wicket haul in the match, Rabada was adjudged the man of the match. And for his astonishingly consistent batting, Dean Elgar was awarded the man of the series. The ODI series will start from 15th October. With all rounder Shakib Al Hasan back & Tamim making good progress in his recovery from a shin injury, the visitors will hope to stage a better showing than what they did in the test series.
