Result: Pakistan win by 36 runs & seal the series 3-0
Man of the match & series: Shoaib Malik
International cricket returned to Pakistan after almost 9 years since the shocking terrorist attack on Sri Lanka team bus. Coincidentally, it was the same team that’s toured the country for the last of the 3-match T-20 series that Pakistan had already won courtesy of wins in the first two matches. In Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium, buoyed by the fans & the extra motivation of finally playing at home, Pakistan once again turned on the style as they beat Sri Lanka by 36 runs to seal yet another whitewash.
After winning the toss, Thisara Perera opted to bowl. All the Pakistani batsmen were played sensible cricket, with crisp partnerships all throughout the 20 overs. Openers Fakhar Zaman & Umar Amin shared an opening stand of 57 before Fakhar was dismissed by Dilshan Munaweera. Amin perished after a 34 rrun partnership with young sensation Babar Azam. After Hafeez departed, Babar took control of the batting with veteran Shoaib Malik, who too scored 51 off just 24 balls. Babar stayed undefeated on 34 aas Pakistan finished on 180 for 3, mainly thanks to Malik’s exploits.
In reply, Sri Lanka started I’m horrible fashion as they were reduced to just 21 for 3 after 4 overs. Dasun Shanaka, complemented by Seekkuge Prasanna, Chaturanga De Sliva tried to steady the shio but simply couldn’t because of the fabulous Mohammad Amir, who’s just returned from injury; taking 4 for just 13 runs. Pacer Fahim Ashraf, who took a hat trick in the last match, took 2 for 19 as Sri Lanka fell 36 runs short off the target. For his blistering 51, Shoaib Malik won the man of the match. He also won the man of the series award for his consistency with bat & ball.
