A rampaging Pakistan has absolutely torn apart a sorry looking Sri Lanka side in the 5th ODI and has whitewashed them in one of the one of the most one sided series of recent times. It was once again the bowlers who took care of the Lankan batting line up. Young lefty Usman Khan alone ripped apart the top order as Sri Lanka were all out for just 103. This is the first time in 9 years that Pakistan has whitewashed a team, the last being Bangladesh back in 2008.
After winning the toss & electing to bat, Sri Lanka were in trouble from the very first over when Usman dismissed Sidara Samarawickrama & Dinesh Chandimal in consecutive deliveries. The lefty was on fire again in his 2nd over, again picking up two Lankan batsman, namely Upul Tharanga & wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella. Usman completed his 5-er when he dismissed Milinda Siriwardana in only the 7th over of the innings. Lahiru Thirimanne, Seekkuge Prsanna & Thisara Perera offered some respite as they were 3 of the only 4 batsmen to have reached double figures. They were bowled out for 103 when Dushmanth Chameera played on a Hasan Ali delivery.
In reply, it was never a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’ for Pakistan. Openers Fakhar Zaman & Imam-Ul-Haq shared a partnership of 84 before Fakhar was dismissed just 2 short off a half century. Imam & Faheem Ashraf finished the job. Usman was awarded the man of the match while Hasan Ali bagged the man of the series award.
