It’s been a strange couple of months for Bangladesh cricket. After their test series against Australia, The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) head Mr. Nazmul Hasan Papon directly pointed finger towards test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. The clash gathered pace when the wicket-keeper batsman surprisingly said that it was his fault that he won the toss. During their embarrassing series loss against South Africa, there have been many occasions where Mushfiq openly blamed his teammates & the management.
In a press conference, Mr. Papon said, “His comments are harmful for the image of cricket in our country. Mushfiq is different. He’s more of an introvert person, that’s why he expresses himself less. But to say that winning the toss was a mistake- this itself proves that he’s some issues which need to be sorted out”.
The BCB Boss further added, “We will talk about this matter with him in private. He’s having some troubles. It might be because of the management, the players, or even us. The things that he’s saying & the proofs that we have, don’t match. That is why we’ll discuss it when he comes back from the series”.
So, the question remains whether Mushfiq will carry on as the test captain of Bangladesh. To this question, Mr. Papon gave no clear answers, adding more fuel to rumors of the keeper facing the captaincy axe. Papon concluded by saying, “We haven’t still decided it. But we do believe that if he leaves the captaincy, it’ll be better for him as he’ll be more concentrated on his batting. But we’ll take a decision very soon”.
Will we see Mushfiqur Rahim as Bangladesh’s test captain ever again?
Only the BCB knows…
