India skipper Virat Kohli has been playing relentlessly for the men in blue this year. Therefore, a certain rumour is gathering pace that India will rest Kohli in the upcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka. One of the main reasons of doing so was for Kohli to stay fatigue less ahead of the test series against South Africa in January, 2018. But India’s ‘A’ team coach Rahul Dravid has dismissed such reports. Dravid also added that asking for the rest is upto Koholi and there should be no discussion about such topic.
Dravid said, “Everyone needs rest. Virat Kohli will get rest when he wants. I don’t know why there is so much of discussion and controversy. Rotations are needed. There are a lot of matches being played, so you need to rotate the players. I think the management is taking right decision.
Besides the Kohli matter, Dravid also talked about the ICC ODI league which got approved by ICC: “I think having the context to especially ODI cricket and series is really important and sometimes in tri-series and bilateral series it can get a bit difficult to generate that level of context. But if you are having that sort of context towards a particular end goal in mind then surely something good can come out of it. If it creates that level of interest and context in bilateral series it will be a good thing”. While being quizzed about coaching the Indian junior team, Dravid was very excited, ” I have really enjoyed coaching since the past two years and it has been a great learning experience”.
With the ‘A’ team under his wing, it’d be no surprise if ‘The Wall’ goes onto manage the national side once again.
