ndian wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik finds himself in the 15-men squad set to face New Zealand at home starting from next week on October 22nd. The BCCI announced the squad on October 14th with another two ODIs set to follow. There are also no place for known places like KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Mohammad Shami & Umesh Yadav.
Karthik played his last ODI last July against West Indies. He didn’t get into the ODI series against Sri Lanka & Australia. Although the keeper was included in the T-20 squad against Australia, he didn’t feature in a single match. Indian management faces some serious decision making. Ajinkya Rahane made the most of Dhawan’s absence with 4 half centuries. With the lefty back in the squad, Rahane faces uncertainty regarding his place in the team. The men in blue faces the same problem at No. 4. While Hardik Pandya excelled, Manish Pandey also shined later down the order. The surprise exclusion of Ashwin, Jadeja has raised eyebrows. But Shardul Thakur finds his way in with good performances against the New Zealand A team. With Shami, Yadav missing, it’s the same bowling line up of Bhuvneshwar, Kuldeep Yadav, Chahal & Jaspreet Bumrah that’ll take on the Kiwis.
Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.
