With South Africa absolutely flying against visitors Bangladesh, they’ve been hit with a bad news today, namely the injury of skipper Faf Du Plessis. The ‘Protea’ batsman was on 91 when he had to go off injured.
It was during the 41st over of the South African innings when Du Plessis was running for a second with debutant Aiden markram. As soon as the skipper reached his mark, he fell down clutching his left glute. In understandable pain, Du Plessis was piggybacked by teammate David Miller as the pain was so excruciating that he couldn’t walk. Du Plessis was tested for any groin or hamstring tear on the field by the Physio which turned out to be negative. It’s looking more and more as a serious lower back injury for the experienced batsman.
Cricket South Africa’s official Twitter account stated, “Faf is out with a lower back strain & is going for assessment. He will not feature in this match again. Get well soon”.
The ODI series has come to an end with South Africa comprehensively winning by 3-0. They’ll now turn their attention to the 2-match T-20 series set to start from October 26th.
