After their 2-year ban was lifted for Illegal betting activities duing IPL ’13, The Chennai Super Kings are back in the IPL for 2018 and the director of the yellows, Mr. George John has made it very clear that they would like to keep the same core of the team.
George said, “We have had talks with the BCCI for the retaining of the players. We plan on having the similar draft to that of 2016. A we’re the highest paid franchise between the two (the other being Rajasthan Royals), we will have the opportunity to pick first, handing us a clear advantage”.
After this news broke out, the main focus of attention was on fan favourite, the ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni on whether he’d play for the yellows again or not. The former Indian captain has made his intentions clear of defending the badge of the CSK by posting a picture of himself wearing a yellow jersey on Instagram.
Besides the same group of players more or less, one of the main reasons of success for CSK was the retaining of the same players and the support staff. George John commented on this issue in an event where CSK signed a partnership agreement with Tekplay Systems saying, “Of course we’d like to have some of our old guns back. We are already in talks with Stephen Fleming & Michael Hussey”.
Can the yellow army win the crown after a two year hiatus? Only time will tell.
