After contributing heavily in the first two ODI wins against Bangladesh, South African opener Hashim Amla has earned himself some deserved rest ahead of the 3rd ODI, set to be played at East London on October 22nd. The prolific right-hander will be replaced by Aiden Markram.
Amla has been sensational throughout the ODI series, scoring 110 and 85 in the first two ODIs respectively. South Africa’s flawless batting has seen them take a 2-0 lead in the 5-match ODI series against the Tigers. And the Proteas are favorites to seal the series come Sunday.
Amla’s replacement, Markram also showed his class in the test seires against Bangladesh, scoring 97 on debut and 143 in the second Test. The tall opener could be a direct replacement for the veteran if the management prefers him over Temba Bavuma.
After playing as amny as 17 ODIs since March, Amla can now relax for a bit and this is a break he himself has earned. With Du Plessis again set to lead the team, the Proteas could hand a debut to young all-rounder Willem Mulder.
